JUDITH BUTLER GENDER PERFORMATIVITY

Identity is performatively constructed by the very 'Expressions' that are said to be its results. Try to think of a theatre play, the way the roles are constructed directly rreflect the performaces of a Man or women. Example 'Make up routine'

No gender identity behind the expressions of gender. This relates to the idea that the only difference between men and women are the perfomances. If you remove the performances we are all the same.

Performativity is not a singular act, but a repetition and a ritual. The fact that we perform certain acts on a daily basis only reinforces the identity through performance.
