Gender in constructed through discourse, and it depends on context. The behaviours and activities that a women displays could be argued to be all that make her a 'Women'. Think of: clothes; speech; movement; and Roles in the Home. The above are all examples of discourse.

Objectification of women is a core element of western Patriarchy. 'Patriarchy' refers to the male ruled western society, a society which views women via a mans perspective. When researching into how society views women significance can be draw from the difference in the past (1950's) to now (21st Century).

Visual and Narrative codes for male body spectacle differ from female body. When looking at women and their percived role in society, it is interseting to first look at their representation in film and media, the clearest example being the women in distress. A women is understood as needing a man to save her?
